LEH LADAKH ROAD TRIP

Ladakh, requires no too much explanations. The one of its kind bike trip, the thrilling and adventure filled paths lures one to this nature’s crude beauty. The place is in the mountainous area of trans Himalayas, Jammu and Kashmir. At an altitude of about 3000 metres, lying on the northern border of China and Tibet, the place is like no other. The magically bewitching, valleys, moonscape, and colourful tourist spots make this place a definite yes to one’s travel list. June to September is considered the best time to visit Ladakh. The place is a complete package of thrill and adventure to the bikers and nature lovers. A blend of Tibetian culture with Ladakh’s own picturesque arena is another reason for not missing the warmth of the place, despite being a colder region.

For those, already been to such roads, must recall the adrenaline rush at the road turns and the chilly winter. In a zippy zappy spirit, the bus journey from Delhi takes us to Manali. Reaching Manali by next morning, welcome the rolling hills and optimistic blue sky.

Checking-in to the lodgings at Manali to take rest so as to buckle up for the first spots of the trip. The old cafes of Manali can be explored, alongside Mall road, the shopping spot at Mall road too. Other interesting spots include the hot spring of Vashishtha and the river side of Beas. Give yourself a time of joy and peace with a cosy atmosphere and some time to take some snaps of the beautiful environ.

The third day is about a lot of traveling, too much to please our eyes through the snow covered paths, experiencing raw nature. The views after crossing Keylong are amazing too. After staying the night at the camps, the almost best part of trip is going to follow the next morning, that is, Leh. With bellies full of delicious breakfast, the next part of the trip takes us to Leh. Better view, better pictures, even better experience, Leh is about just that. TangLang La and a pit stop for snacks were two stoppage points in between. Enjoying the sunset view and reminiscing the past good day, with evening supper, the day ends.

In the midst of cold breeze blowing through the face, clear white sky, the day is welcomed followed by warm and heart filling breakfast. This day’s visit include the Hall of fame, Gurudwara pathar sahib, Sputum monastery, Magnetic hill, Zanskar and Indus river meeting point. There’s Leh palace and Shanti stupa too, which is covered on the way back.

A new day must begin with a new destination. The sixth day is a drive to the Nubra valley via Khardongla pass, the highest motorable road. Moving towards the north of Ladakh, between the Karakoram and Ladakh ranges, a small, blissful village called Sumoor is visited. A historic place with a  leasant scenic beauty, Samstanling monastery’s visit is about charm and peace. The day is concluded after returning to hotels and getting a good night sleep.

Beginning of the seventh day is with the visit to Diskit monastery, from where the view up till Pangong lake is mesmerizing. A spectacular view that eyes can never forget, the Changchenmo range and shimmery colour changing lake, the day is culminated. And, the actual blue and white experience of nature can be seen through the Pangong lake, with trekking the first activity of the eighth day.

The other special feature of the lake is the fact that it is the highest saltwater lake in the world and that the share of India and China on the lake is 25 and 75% respectively. The three idiot movie’s school, Shey and Thicksey monastery are visited during the return journey till Jispa.

The goodbye to Leh, the next morning and then heading towards Jispa is to be done on the ninth day. Jispa is again the layover spot for the return journey to Manali. The morning breakfast from Jispa is the headstart to Manali, which is achieved by the afternoon. The lunch break is followed by the final return to Delhi via AC Volvo buses.
