CHOPTA TUNGNATH

Chopta is a peaceful and lush hill station in Uttarakhand. There’s much to explore here. It is the nexus point of the Panch Kedars (Kedarnath, Rudranath, Madmaheshwar, Kalpeshwar, and Tungnath). It is called the ‘Mini Switzerland’ of India, positioned at a height of 2680 meters (8790 feet). Chopta uttarakhand is surrounded by lush green forests. It is an amazing offbeat weekend destination. Best time to visit Chopta is April to November. It provides surreal views of peaks Nanda Devi, Trishul and Chaukhamba. Chopta valley Uttarakhand temperatures ranging between 10°C and 32°C in summers and -15°C to 5°C in winters. This hamlet is the base for trekking upto Tungnath, the highest Shiva temple in the world. It is 225 kilometers upwards of Haridwar.

ITINERARY

Day 1 : Delhi to Chopta ( 402 Kms)
With good vibes and great enthusiasm, we begin our trip from Delhi to Chopta at 9 pm. We take the overnight journey chit-chatting and getting acquainted with our fellow travelers.
Day 2 : Reach Chopta
We halt for morning breakfast and to stretch our legs near Devprayag or Srinagar (depending on the time). After a quick breakfast we carry on our journey.
We reach Chopta by afternoon, check-in to our camps and rest. Post lunch you can explore the surrounding or even head for the Baniyakund Trek (DIY).

Enjoy your dinner next to the bonfire and call it a day.

Day 3 : Trek to Tunganath
Wake up to one the most beautiful sunrises you might have experienced. Enjoy your breakfast and start your trek toward Tunganath (9,600 ft.) which is also the highest Shiva temple of the world. Pay your respects at the highest abode of Lord Shiva.

Enjoy the breath taking 360 degree view. The adventurous can trek further towards Chandrashila (13,000 ft.) if weather and time permits. Return to Chopta and rest at the camps. Enjoy your meals and rest for the night.

Day 4 : Deoriatal Trek and return journey
Wake up to the lazy morning and enjoy your breakfast. A group picture before checking out of the camps for lasting memories. Pack your stuff and head towards Sari village for a simple 3 km trek towards Deoria tal (8,000 ft.) or if you wish to chill and relax you can explore the Sari Village.

Post lunch we will start our journey back to Delhi. We will reach Delhi the next day early morning.

OVERVIEW

The weather here is cool and pleasant in the summers, rainy and lush in the monsoons, and blanketed in snow during winters. You reach Chopta valley by afternoon and settle into your camps. The sights that you see here aren’t anywhere else to see, the bliss that you experience here isn’t anywhere else to feel. The panoramic views of the Himalayan ranges are truly dreamlike. It has a mystic charm about it, the deeper you go-the calmer you feel. You explore your surroundings, capture picturesque scenes, and let go of the hustle bustles of the city life.

A fun and lively evening leads you to a tranquil night, wherein post having your delicious meals, you sleep under the stars with a thrill in your heart and a smile on your lips. Next morning you wake up early, because this day calls for some adventure. You start trekking up to Tungnath. Chopta trek is an easy to moderate and can easily be done by newcomers, as well as the experienced. In under an hour of trekking, you’ll see the layered green carpeted meadows with grand, majestic trees on the top and mighty snow clad Himalayas in the backdrop.

The trekking distance is covered around 2-3 hours and traverses a 4 kilometer route uphill. On reaching Tungnath, you get to see an important piece of mythology, a simple 1000 year old Shiva temple. The energy here is divine and a complete treat for all the Shiva deities. Relaxing at this pristine place is the while purpose of this trek. Absorb the good vibes here and let the nature work its magic on you. Let it relieve you of your stresses and calm your soul to its core. If you wish to, you may trek up to Chandrashila peak which is 1.5 kilometers upwards of here and can be covered in around an hour. Though a steep ascend uphill, the beauty at the summit is unmatchable and exquisite.

Coming back is much easier than climbing upwards and so you gradually make your way back to your camping area at Chopta village with a fresh pair of eyes and renewed sense of enthusiasm. Physically you might have been tired out but mentally you will be better than ever. And so, end one the most wonderful days post a scrumptious dinner on a sweet note. The next morning, the sun will wake you up to another bright and lovely day. After having breakfast, you checkout from your camps and head towards the Sari village. Sari is a heavenly tiny abode where locals live simple and peaceful lives. It is the base for trekking to Deori tal, a lake located 3 kilometers uphill this village.

Deori tal is a picturesque sight indeed, with thick green forests on one side and overreaching Himalayas on the other. A quick descend will bring you back to the base Chopta valley uttarakhand. Hereon, you begin your journey back to your hometowns.
